Serve: Become a Volunteer
Serving God with all of our Mind, Heart and Strength
We are so excited the Lord is moving your heart to serve! We serve as an act of worship to God. This conviction really shapes the heart, posture, and purpose of everything we do! Volunteering with the International Seafarer Ministry of Miami is not about helping an organization or filling a need; it is a response of obedience and an act of worship to the Lord Himself.
For that reason, service in this ministry is not viewed as “doing a favor,” but instead it is seen as a meaningful calling from God that deserves care, responsibility, and faithfulness. We serve before God, not merely before people. We seek volunteers who desire to offer their time and gifts with reverence, consistency, and joy in the bond of love and unity.
Investing time training volunteers
Because we invest significant time, care, and effort into training our volunteers, we ask for a responsible and committed approach to serving. This mutual commitment allows us to steward both people and ministry opportunities well, and to provide excellent care to the seafarers we serve.
Ministry opportunities
Our volunteers participate in many areas of ministry, including:
Hospitality and welcoming seafarers with warmth and kindness
Encouragement, listening, and prayer
Driving the ministry van and assisting with transportation
Creating a peaceful, friendly, and respectful environment
Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with love and clarity
Simply being present — reflecting Christ through compassion and grace
Many more opportunities as the Lord leads us
Recommendation and participation in your local church
We believe the local church is central to the Christian life and essential for spiritual growth and accountability. Therefore, all volunteers must be active members of a local church and provide a pastoral recommendation letter. This letter serves as an affirmation of Christian character and helps ensure healthy accountability within the volunteer’s local church community.
Serving one Sunday per Month
Our ministry runs all week-long seven days a week. Volunteers are asked to serve one Sunday a month, and we intentionally structure service schedules so that volunteers are not pulled away from regular church worship. Our desire is to support — not replace — faithfulness to one’s home church.
Agreeing and Upholding
Additionally, all volunteers must agree to and uphold our Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct, as these provide theological unity, clarity of expectations, and a Christ-honoring environment for all who serve and visit.
Letters of Recommendation
As a way of encouraging long-term faithfulness, volunteers who have served consistently for one year or more may request a ministry recommendation letter, when appropriate.
