Our Commitment to Christlike Integrity

The International Seafarer Ministry (ISM) of PortMiami exists to glorify God through acts of service, compassion, and integrity. We believe that how we conduct our ministry is as important as what we do. Every staff member, volunteer, and representative of ISM is called to reflect the character of Christ in word, action, and decision—demonstrating honesty, humility, accountability, and respect toward all people.

We are committed to operating in full compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and international laws, while upholding the moral and ethical principles revealed in Scripture. In everything we do, we seek to maintain a testimony that honors God and inspires trust among our partners, donors, and the seafarers we serve.

Ethical Business Conduct

ISM expects all personnel to act responsibly and with transparency in every transaction and relationship. This includes:

Using ministry resources solely for their intended purposes.
Accurately recording all financial transactions and maintaining complete, auditable records.
Avoiding conflicts of interest, favoritism, or any conduct that could damage ISM’s reputation or mission.
Maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding the privacy and dignity of seafarers, donors, and partners.

We affirm that ethical conduct is not only a legal obligation but a spiritual calling (Colossians 3:23–24).

Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy

ISM strictly prohibits the giving, offering, soliciting, or receiving of bribes, gifts, or any form of improper advantage. All dealings with port officials, shipping companies, vendors, and partner organizations must be transparent, lawful, and motivated by integrity.

As Scripture reminds us, “A bribe corrupts the heart” (Ecclesiastes 7:7); therefore, no gift, donation, or benefit shall ever be used to influence decisions or secure special treatment for ISM or any individual associated with it.

Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Transparency

ISM maintains rigorous financial controls to prevent and detect money laundering or any misuse of funds. We receive donations and grants only from legitimate and verifiable sources and ensure that all expenditures are properly documented. Financial transactions must be transparent, traceable, and aligned with the mission of the ministry. ISM’s financial stewardship is regularly reviewed by independent auditors and reported to the Board of Directors.

Prevention of the Facilitation of Tax Evasion

ISM has zero tolerance for tax evasion or the facilitation of tax evasion by any individual or organization. No representative of the ministry shall engage in or assist others in concealing or misrepresenting financial information to avoid lawful tax obligations. We render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar (Matthew 22:21) and operate openly and honestly before both God and government.

Reporting, Oversight, and Accountability

Any employee, volunteer, or partner who becomes aware of unethical conduct or a violation of this policy must report it promptly to the Executive Director or the Board of Directors. All reports will be handled with confidentiality, fairness, and without fear of retaliation. ISM’s leadership is responsible for ensuring compliance, maintaining clear procedures, and fostering a culture of integrity and accountability at every level.

Our Witness and Responsibility

As followers of Christ, we recognize that ethical excellence is not only good practice—it is part of our witness to the world. By acting with transparency and fairness, we build credibility with port officials, cruise and cargo companies, churches, and supporters. We aim to model servant leadership so that the seafarers we serve may, in turn, become joyful ambassadors of His love, hope, and grace to their fellow crew members, passengers, and to the ends of the earth.
