Code of Conduct

As a volunteer with the International Seafarer Ministry of Miami, I will demonstrate my love for Christ and for others by making the following commitments:

1. Respect and Dignity
   I will treat all crew members, volunteers, staff, and visitors with respect and dignity. I will serve with sensitivity to cultural, language, and religious differences, and will pray regularly for the ministry, those we serve, and my fellow volunteers.

2. Appropriate Boundaries
   I will not show affection that could be misunderstood. I will not be alone with a member of the opposite sex in a private setting, including residences, cars, or meals, except for my spouse or immediate family members.

3. Substance Use
   I understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs is prohibited at all times while serving as a volunteer, whether on ministry sites, at port facilities, or elsewhere. Volunteers with ongoing substance abuse issues are not eligible to serve.

4. Media and Entertainment
   I will not view, share, or distribute pornography in any form.

5. Weapons and Safety
   Firearms, fireworks, or other weapons are not permitted while serving in the ministry. I agree to have none of these items in my possession during ministry activities.

6. Diligent Service
   I will serve to the best of my ability in the tasks and responsibilities assigned to me.

7. Schedules and Rest
   I will follow ministry schedules and respect designated rest periods to ensure I am alert and able to serve others effectively.

8. Dress and Appearance
   I will dress appropriately for ministry activities, demonstrating respect for crew members, volunteers, and staff.

9. Boundaries and Supervision
   I will respect areas designated as off-limits and will not leave ministry sites, meeting areas, or port facilities without notifying a staff leader or Site Director.

10. Privacy and Property
    I will respect the privacy and possessions of crew members, volunteers, and staff, and expect the same in return. I will not touch or move others’ belongings without permission.

11. Cleanliness and Care for Property
    I will maintain a clean, neat, and orderly environment. I will keep ministry sites, meeting areas, and port facilities free from litter and respect property and equipment. I understand that I am responsible for any damage I cause.

12. Mission-Focused Conduct
    I will act in ways that support the mission of the International Seafarer Ministry of Miami: sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, caring for seafarers, and promoting unity among volunteers and staff.
