A Sailor's Honesty Shines in Downtown Miami

A seafarer who frequently visits the ministry recently lost his wallet in downtown Miami. It contained $900 in cash, a credit card, and his boarding documents—extremely important items for an active-duty seafarer. He was devastated but reluctant to give up hope. He knew it was highly unlikely that someone would return such a large amount of money, and even though he strongly wished to stay and search, he had to return to his ship by the scheduled time before it set sail. We prayed for him and his situation and sent him off with blessings.

In a touching act of honesty and solidarity, a young British woman—also a seafarer and a Christian—found the wallet and immediately took action to return it. She contacted the owner by phone and arranged to deliver the wallet to the Hospitality Center of the Seafarers’ Ministry at PortMiami. A few days later, Holly, the British seafarer, brought the wallet—with the $900 and all the important documents—for Kiran, a seafarer from India, to pick up the next day.

Kiran shared his testimony in the ministry lounge, expressing deep gratitude and joy for having recovered not only his money but also his essential documents. The seafarers present broke into applause and joyful expressions. His story is a moving reminder of the integrity and kindness that exist within the seafaring community.
